Another one of
our favorite shopping carts is from
Virtual
Cart. It is very similar to Mal's E-Commerce
shopping cart, but has more features. It even interfaces
with the UPS, FedEx and United States Postal Service
shipping rates for precise shipping calculations.
Virtual Cart has been around since 1996 and they have a
well-designed shopping cart. Like Mal's E-Commerce,
Virtual Cart allows E-Commerce to be added to any of
your regular static web pages. This is a wonderful
advantage over the forced designs that most
"off-the-shelf" shopping carts require.
Virtual Cart is $249 a year. That works
out to only $20.75 a month. You can pay quarterly or
semi-annually if you want, but the fee is increased. It is
$150 ($25 a month) if you pay semi-annually or $90 ($30 a
month) if you pay quarterly.
Virtual Cart will allow you to sell from one
to 10,000 different products for the same fees. However, if
you have thousands of products, you will probably want to add
either the Virtual Catalog or Virtual Catalog SQL database
management features. These are $199 and $399 in addition to
the previously mention annual fee. Virtual Catalog SQL will
allow you to have over 250,000 items!

If you
are just starting out with e-commerce, you may want
to consider 2Checkout.com.
It will allow you to accept credit card payments
on your web site with no monthly service fee. The
per transaction fee and rates are higher than other
services, but it is still the most cost effective
way to go when you are first starting out. However,
please be aware that you can not
use 2Checkout.com as a "Virtual Terminal"
to process credit card payments that do not come
over the Internet.
